It is one of the most typical beers from southern Germany, with a tradition dating back hundreds of years, when the production of wheat beer used to be a monopoly of the Bavarian royalty.
Forgotten afterwards for some years in favour of more commercial and cleaner beers, in the 60s some factories in southern Germany such as Erdinger, Franziskaner and Schneider reintroduced it to the market with a large advertising campaign exposing the isotonic virtues that this beer had for athletes.

Intense straw to golden in colour. With a thick, white head. The high protein content provided by the wheat and the suspended yeasts make this a very cloudy beer.
